Little Houndales Knits was established in 2010 after I was diagnosed with a neurological condition for which there is no cure and was forced to leave my dentistry profession behind.
In June 2010 after our flock of Suffolk X sheep at Little Houndales Farm had been sheared, I decided to search for a company that would spin the fleeces into yarn. After some research and several phone calls The Natural Fibre Company in Cornwall spun the first batch of twenty fleeces into an aran weight yarn.
I then took a stall at two local Farmers' Markets one morning a month and it was here that I got a feel for the enthusiasm from knitters of how hard it was to find ‘proper wool’ and how pleased they were to find us! From these humble beginnings Little Houndales Knits now stocks a large selection of commercial yarns and premium branded knitting needles and notions - as well as our own-branded yarn of course.
We have an "Alladin’s Cave" for knitters and crocheters here at the farm with amazing yarns, fabulous pattern books from some of the biggest names in the hand-knitting industry, needles and hooks to suit every project and some lovely notions. We also stock our own range of bespoke ceramic yarn bowls with designs unique to us.
We are open every Monday and Saturday from 10 am till 4 pm when my assistant and I will welcome you to browse the yarns and patterns, pick up some tips if you need them and have a cuppa. We are both fanatical knitters/crocheters and are always happy to help you make the project you want. We are also online 24/7 with free UK delivery on orders over £20.
Little Houndales Knits is my focus and identity and I'm proud of the business it has become.
