Aran Yarn – Yarns By Weight
Aran yarn is slightly thicker than double knitting yarns and calls for a 4.5 mm or 5 mm needles. As with double knitting yarn, most aran weight yarns will knit to any pattern which calls for an aran yarn. However, it is always worth doing a tension square to be absolutely sure as you may need to use a size larger or smaller to get the tension right. As a rule, yarns with a large percentage of cotton knit up larger - so those are the ones to watch!
