In this category you will find a vast selection of knitting yarn and crochet yarn. A large proportion of the knitting yarns we sell are natural fibres and blends with natural fibres. Once you have knitted using natural fibres you will notice a big difference between the properties of natural fibre yarns and manmade fibres. Natural fibres do need more care when washing and handling (even if the ball band says it's machine washable I usually personally choose to hand wash). Machine washable knitting wools tend to have been treated to give them the 'superwash' properties which makes them withstand a machine wash, however, the enzymes in the detergent are the main problem in that they can attack wool and break it down over time. Therefore, if you do choose to machine wash you woollens, it might be best to use and enzyme free detergent specifically for woollens. My favourite hand wash solutions are 'Soak' and 'Eucalan', these are both enzyme free and suitable for all your delicates, natural fibres and hand knits. They are specifically for hand washing but they are so easy to use that hand washing isn't a chore. Simply pour a small amount of the solution into a sink full of luke warm water, place your garment in and following a gentle squeeze, go for a cuppa allowing the garment to soak for about 15 minutes. Remove the garment and gently squeeze out the excess water, roll in a towel to remove further excess water and dry flat.
The designer branded knitting yarns we stock include Debbie Bliss, Louisa Harding, Noro and Rowan. Of these brands we carry most in stock in most shades and maintain good stock levels. Any we don't have in stock or that aren't showing on the website are available to order in most intances so please feel free to contact me for anything you can't find.
The premuim yarns we stock are Lorna's Laces, Malabrigo, MillaMia, WoollyWumpkins, Knitting Goddess and Fyberspates. These are all produced from premium quality natural fibres except for a little nylon in the Lorna's Laces to make it strong enough to use for socks. The colour palettes are divine and the pattern support is really special. Additionally, many of these yarns have been used in projects on the Ravelry website and many designers on Ravelry have used these yarns for their designs, many of which are available as downloads (some of them free!).
Our 'fashion' range is from Bergere de France, a family run company in France who produce their own yarns on site. Their designs are wonderful and have taken the UK market by storm. We stock a large range of Bergere de France yarns but those which we don't carry are all available to order and usually arrive within 5 working days.
Our budget range of knitting yarns come from the Designer Yarns Choices range. Designer Yarns are the Yorkshire based company behind distribution Debbie Bliss, Noro, Louisa Harding, Araucania and Mirasol. They have a wealth of experience in selecting yarns and fibres and have produced their 'own brand' of yarns known as DY Choices. They produce Aran, DK and 4ply yarns and Baby Joy, as specific 'baby yarn', all in a good colour palette. The fibres used in these yarns have been carefully sourced to produce the 'premium' budget yarn which surpasses the quality of many of it's peers. Although it will never replace a natural fibre, this range has proved extremely popular with knitters wishing to make childrens garments, dog coats and home wear.
In addition to the above, we have our own yarns from our own sheep. We keep a flock of Suffolk X and we have used their fleece to produce some authentic Yorkshire Wolds yarns. We have a range of 100% Suffolk X in an Aran weight and a beautiful blend of 50% Suffolk X and 50% British Alpaca, available in an Aran and DK weight. The Alpaca blends have been extremely popular with their wonderful 'woolly' look and feel with the fabulous 'downy' core from the Alpaca. Whether it be that you like to know the source of your fibre or you want a souvenir from the Yorkshire Wolds, our own collection of yarns is certainly worth a look!
We specialise in providing nothing but the very best knitting yarns to be found in the UK. Whatever option you choose you will be able to guarantee a high standard of material to work with.
